Getting to the carnival
One of the best ways to travel is to leave your car at the Dean Forest Railway and get on the train, which runs direct to Parkend. Fares are reasonable and times will allow you to get to see the Carnival Procession which leaves Cannop Road at 1.30 p.m. (Entrance to the Carnival Field is not included). From the Lydney direction follow the signposted road to Lydbrook, via Whitecroft for about 4 miles. From Cinderford use the B4234 road which runs via Speech House and will take you directly to Parkend. If you feel energetic there is a cycle track available from Coleford, Beechenhurst and Fancy View.
There is a designated disabled car parking site, also various parking areas which are free of charge, otherwise it will be 'free for all' parking on the roads around the village, so the most convenient way to travel to the sports field is by the Dean Forest Railway from Norchard Station in Lydney, where there are many car parking spaces available.
If you are using one of the Parkend Carnival Car Parks please make sure vehicles are removed before 6pm, or you will risk being locked in once the car park has closed.
Train times will be available shortly. Travelling by this will bring back childhood memories to many people and we're sure that the children will enjoy their trip through our beautiful forest track. Thanks go to the members of the Dean Forest Railway for providing this facility which will make the carnival much more exciting and special to many people.
